Ujjain Kumbh

Kumbh Mela at Ujjain :- Kumbh Mela In Ujjain is one of the most sacred and pious festival celebrated at four places in India: Nasik, Ujjain, Haridwar and Allahabad. The legend behind its commemoration quotes the rivalry between demons and demigods at the time of ‘Samudra Manthan’. It states that once upon a time demigods found themselves weak and felt deterioration in their strength. Helplessly they visited Lord Brahma and requested for directions.

The lord showed them way to nectar by the process of churning the ‘Kshir Sagar. Abiding Him demigods initiated the churning of Kshir Sagar with the help of demons under the agreement that the resultant treasure would be divided among them alternately. It was the turn of demons to receive the treasure when the divine physician ‘Dhanvantari’ appeared holding the pot of nectar. His arrival created turmoil among the demigods and demons as both of them wanted to grab the pot.Irritated by the tussle among them, Dhanvantari escaped to heaven in order to save nectar. It is believed that few drops of nectar fell at four different places on earth.Kumbh Mela is celebrated at Ujjain, Nasik, Haridwar and Allahabad in the remembrance of this incidence.

Luxury Tent In Ujjain

"kumbh mela" is a mass Hindu pilgrimage of faith in which Hindus gather to bathe in a sacred river. It is considered to be largest peaceful gathering in the world with over 100 million people visiting during the Maha Kumbh Mela in 2016. It is held every third year at one of the four places by rotation: Ujjain, Allahabad,Nashik and Haridwar.

Thus the Kumbh Mela is held at each of these four places every twelfth year. Ardha ("Half") Kumbh Mela is held at only two places, Ujjain,Haridwar and Allahabad, every sixth year. The rivers at these four places are: the Ganges (Ganga) at Haridwar, the confluence (Sangam) of the Ganges and the Yamuna and the mythical Saraswati at Allahabad, the Godawari at Nashik, and the Shipra at Ujjain.

On this auspicious occasion of Kumbh Mela the divinity and spiritual aroma of Ujjain attains the highest level when millions of pilgrims sage and sadhus gather to take dips and also worship the holy river Kshipra.
The Kumbh at Ujjain is also called "Simhastha" as Jupiter enters the Leo sign of Zodiac ,Known as Simha Rashi ,The ritual of bathing in the Holy Waters of River Kshipra begins with the full moon day of Chaitra Month of Hindu Calendar (22 April 2016) and Continues for the month till full Moon day of Vaishakha ( 21 May 2016)

The Camp Tapovan and Safaris will establish a Luxury tented Camp to provide accommodation during Simhastha Kumbh Mela in Ujjain.

About Ujjain

'Ujjain' means the 'city of victory' (earlier known as Ujjayini) and is located on the western boundary of Madhya Pradesh, Ujjain is 55 km from Indore. It is situated on the banks of Shipra River.

Historical and Mythological Importance of Ujjain

Ujjain is one of the holiest cities in India. According to Indian astrology, zero degrees begins in Ujjain. According to the Mahabharata's Aranya-parva, Ujjain is one of the seven sacred moksa-puris or sapta-puris. The others are Ayodhya, Mathura, Haridwar, Kashi (Varanasi), Kanchipuram, and Dwarka. It is said that Lord Shiva killed the demon Tripura at Ujjain.

The indomitable spirit of Ujjain is best exemplified by the legend of an ancient banyan tree named Siddhwat. The tree is believed to possess extraordinary spiritual vibrations and holy men meditate under it while others worship it. According to the legend, a ruler once had the tree cut down and covered the mutilated stump with seven iron plates, so as to show his authority. By the next morning, the tree had burst through the iron plates and come back to its original size. The tree is still alive and the object of redoubled veneration.

The Simhastha Kumbh Mela, would take place at Ujjain after a gap of 12 long years. It is believed that the holy dip washes away all the sins and the cycle of rebirth and death ends as the soul becomes divine

History of Ujjain

The ancient city of central India, Ujjain is situated in the Malwa region of Madhya Pradesh, on the eastern bank of the Kshipra River. Ujjain is the administrative center of Ujjain District and Ujjain Division. The History of Ujjain has a significant value and a historical importance attached to it. The History of Ujjain states that initially the city was known as Ujjayini and as per epic Mahabharata Ujjayani was the capital of the Avanti Kingdom. The city is said to have been the residence of Ashoka (who subsequently became the emperor), at the time when he was the viceroy of the western provinces of the Maurya empire.

Ujjain was ruled by the Sungas and the Satavahanas consecutively in the Post-Mauryan period. The Satavahanas and the Indo-Scythian Sakas had contested for the city for a long period, but following the end of the Satavahana dynasty, the city was retained by the Sakas from the 2nd to the 4th century CE. After the conquest of the Sakas by the Guptas, the city soon gained importance and became an important seat in the annals of that empire.

According to the History of Ujjain, the city was a major center of mathematical and astronomical research in the 6th and 7th centuries. Brahmagupta, Varahamihira and Bhaskaracharya were the famous mathematicians who worked in the city. The picturesque of Ujjain was invaded by the forces of the Delhi Sultanate led by Iltutmish in 1235. Due to this invasion the city suffered widespread destruction and systematic desecration of temples. After this under the Mughal emperor, Akbar, the city became the capital of Malwa.
